It is a place for musicians to find, and connect with, other musicians, and a place for those who feel out-of-the-loop to get back into it. ROCK-TIL-YOU-DROP has a Musicians' Ads site, a forum and a gig calendar. Its London gigs and on-line music store, also aim to promote those that continue to write and perform original material.
Rock music is generally considered 'youth music'. For this reason, if you play it, the older you get the more difficult it is to be heard - even if you are famous. The musicians associated with this site, myself included, aren't famous. Maybe, one or two of us have had a taste of success in our time. Most of us have families now, and careers. By day, we work in a variety of professions, including law, hypnotherapy, power-boat design, driving instruction, advertising and drug treatment; by night, when we can - we rock. And we all share the intention to keep on rocking as long as we physically can. To realise this ambition though, we need a place to be found and heard.
ROCK-TIL-YOU-DROP aims to provide such a place, both on-line and on the live-music circuit by building a social network of mature and experienced musicians and fans. Faced with limited outlets, less free-time and dwindling peer-group support, we need to share ideas and opportunites. We need each other.
Some of us still have ambitions of commercial success. If you do, I hope RTYD will help you get noticed. Others just want to gig regularly and get their music out there. When I concieved of the site, one of my aims was to prove there was some very original and exciting music being made out there by older musicians and their bands, and to promote it. So I am pleased to be able to make some of it available to listen to through various links on the site, and to download at the ROCK-TIL-YOU-DROP-RECORD SHOP on-line music store. It's early days, but I hope the music store will inspire bands to make more music and get it out there. Watch this space.
